INDOfest 2008 - Adelaide's 1st ever Indonesian Festival!

Adelaide�s first Indonesian festival of food, arts and crafts, music and dance, both traditional and contemporary, will run over four days next month.

INDOfest 08, from April 12 to 15, will give the public a taste of our nearest neighbour through a range of free events and activities in and around Adelaide.

A family fun day in Rymill Park on Sunday, April 13 from 11am to 4pm, will feature food dishes from across Indonesia (Manado, Sumatra, Java, Bali & Lombok) colourful cultural performances from visiting Indonesian artists (GARIS, Gamelan Sekar Laras) dance and art workshops (Moelyono, Jumaadi) and craft for sale.

There will also be face painting, a traditional costume parade, roving performers, cooking demonstrations, an arts display and music performances by SA schools as well as the Indonesian fusion band GARIS from Sydney.

Featuring 50 events over three weeks, the City of Sydney's 2008 Chinese New Year Festival will be�the largest celebration of the Lunar New Year outside of Asia.

With events covering culture, sports, food, performing and visual arts and history there is something on offer to interest any taste.

From 1 - 24 February, more than 600,000 people are expected to crowd the streets of Sydney to celebrate the Year of the Rat, Lunar New Year and all things Chinese.

A range of events over the three week festival offer something for everyone, with some of the highlights confirmed as below:

Friday�1 February�-�Launch Celebration, �Belmore Park - Firecrackers, lions and dragons create an explosive start to the Year of the Rat in Chinatown's Belmore Park. Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP will be joined by the very best Australian and Chinese performers to launch the Festival.� With the famous Chinatown Markets now located in Belmore Park there is even more to see and do, so come early and stay late and enjoy one of Sydney's favourite summer events.

Friday 1 - Sunday 3 February - Chinatown Markets��- Belmore Park - Sydney's famous Chinatown Markets become bigger and better than ever in 2008, taking the colour and excitement of the Chinese New Year Festival's most popular event to a larger venue in Belmore Park. Fresh produce, Chinese New Year gifts and mouth watering foods will transform Belmore Park into a colourful and exotic Asian market village.

Sunday 10 February�- Chinese New Year Parade -

Featuring 2,500 performers including 600 people and floats from China's historic Shaanxi Province and local Chinese community groups, this year's Parade promises to be the most exciting yet with a newly extended route and a concert to finish in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.

Saturday�16 - Sunday 17 February �- Dragon Boat Races - Darling Harbour - More than 2,000 paddlers bring Chinese New Year to Darling Harbour during two exciting days of the Dragon Boat Races. While sporting, social and corporate teams battle it out for the honours on the water, Chinese lions and dragons roam through the site and Chinese foods and gifts on offer from the Markets keep the huge crowd of spectators happy all weekend.
